September 11 in popular culture, a guide
September 11 in popular culture, a guide 9). Another example of post-9/11 patriotism was the 9/11 Ribbon, sometimes called the “loyalty ribbon,” which appeared within days of the attacks. ...

On Thanksgiving day after September 11, 2001, comic strip creators directed readers to donate money in their artwork, generating $50,000 in relief funds. The world's largest radio network, Clear Channel, sent a memo to all of its affiliated stations recommending 150 songs that should be eliminated from airplay because of assumptions that their lyrics would be perceived as offensive in light of the events of 9/11. On the first anniversary of September 11th, choirs around the world performed Mozart's Requiem at 8:46 am in each time zone, the time of the first attack on the World Trade Center. These examples are just three of the ways the world--but especially the United States--responded to the events of September 11, 2001. Red ribbon week & Drug take back day

Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena.

Special Agent Camarena was an 11-year veteran of the DEA assigned to the Guadalajara, Mexico, office where he was on the trail of the country’s biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers. In 1985, he was extremely close to unlocking a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline. On February 7, 1985, he was kidnapped, brutally tortured, and murdered by Mexican drug traffickers. His tragic death opened the eyes of many Americans to the dangers of drugs and the international scope of the drug trade.

Heroin, cocaine and hallucinogens rightly conjure frightening associations of the terrible consequences of drug abuse. But an equally dangerous and far more insidious form of drug abuse goes on all around us.  Some of us may even be contributing to the problem without even knowing it!

Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around Your Education | Saint Edinros

For modern day Americans, the yellow ribbon has become a symbol of solidarity and support for our military service members far from home. The ribbons that we see on cars and mailboxes are an expression of hope that they will return home safely and soon. Many Universities and colleges are extending that hope of a brighter future to military veterans by participating in a provision of the GI Bill called The Yellow Ribbon program. This program is a way for these institutions of higher learning to say thank you to our veterans by providing tuition assistance over and above what the Post 9/11 GI Bill provides.

The Yellow Ribbon Program is designed to help students pay for college even when the tuition and fees exceed the amounts provided by the GI Bill. Under the Post 9/11 GI Bill eligible veterans can receive tuition rates that are capped at the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. This means that student veterans who attend private colleges, graduate school or pay out-of-state tuition rates would end up with additional out-of-pocket costs. Degree granting educational institutions voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Veterans Administration to fund the additional student expense. By participating in the Yellow Ribbon program the institution essentially agrees to split the difference with the VA....
