The Honor Flag will be at the side of San Diego police Officer Jeremy Henwood throughout a memorial service Friday morning, serving as a reminder that he is a hero who gave his life to the community he served. Marine honors fire department with flag — Buffalo Grove news ...
On Feb. 20, a U.S. flag was flown over a military base in Afghanistan.
Though a seemingly innocuous occurrence, the flag meant a lot to two men in the Buffalo Grove Fire Department – it was flown for them.
Jim Hauber and Kevin Hauber are firefighter paramedics with the department, and uncles to Sgt. William Adam Chapman, a Marine who is home from Afghanistan.
During his time overseas, he wanted to honor his two uncles and their service to their own communities by flying the flag over the Base Defense Operation Center, 3rd Battalion 25th Marines Forward Camp Leatherneck, in the Helman Province of Afghanistan.
Chapman presented the flag to the department with his uncles and the Buffalo Grove Honor Guard. It will later be displayed at the Buffalo Grove fire station, along with a photo of the flag flying in Afghanistan.
“To hold this flag will send chills down your spine,” Fire Chief Terry Vavra said. “I don’t know what it is.”
