Dedicated Lioness honored for 60 years of Service
Committee to this day, Hilson has served as Lioness president twice – in 1957 and 1975 – and was chosen Lioness of the Year in 1994. Not someone to seek the limelight, she has been a behind-the-scenes participant in every activity and fundraiser the club has sponsored over the past six decades, whether rummage sales in past years or the currently popular Spring Garden salad bar luncheon. Tracking “perfect attendance” as many service clubs do began with the local Lioness Club in 1959. In 2009, Hilson became the first 50-year perfect attendee –and she has the loaded charm bracelet to prove it.

Although the local Lioness club is now independent with no requirement that a member be related to a Lions clubber, for its first 35 years it was an auxiliary to the men’s club, but both operated independently while providing support to each other. Participating in local Lions and Lioness activities together, the couple also enjoyed visiting other clubs wherever they were in the or overseas.
