hair pins (especially the really formal ones with pearls and such) are totally okay! People spray glitter in their hair sometimes, hair pins look more polished.

Mae Goldstein Lutz, 85, of Center City, a former social worker in Philadelphia and press attache in Ethiopia who operated a jewelry store on Rittenhouse Square for more than 15 years, died of lung cancer Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Vitas Hospice at Methodist Hospital.
Mrs. Lutz opened Repliqué in a beauty salon in 1977 and soon afterward moved the enterprise to the nearby Warwick Hotel at 17th and Locust Streets.
A son, Barry Lutz, said Repliqué specialized in jewelry inspired by Tiffany, Cartier, and Van Cleef & Arpels, but sold at a fraction of the cost.
In 1989, the Philadelphia Daily News described Repliqué as "a costume-jewelry store with expensive-looking designs and surprisingly affordable prices." It gave as examples smooth-cut brown, opal, or purple glass earrings set in brass for $35, and "aristocratic"-looking earrings resembling aquamarine for $37. It also mentioned the store's stock of classic silver hoop earrings, faux pearl necklaces that looked real, suede belts adorned with metal and semiprecious stones, hair ornaments, and handbags.
