St. Paul's Festival offers good food, friends, music and memories
They come to worship in a familiar place.
They come to renew old friendships - some with people they see only once a year.
They come to hear the old songs.
And they come to eat. Boy, do they eat.
St. Paul Catholic Church, located in the heart of Little Italy Erie, will be a busy place this weekend as it hosts the annual Italian Festival celebrating the Feast of the Assumption.
The festival, which will be held on church grounds at 1617 Walnut Street, begins today and continues through to Sunday.
"It's a time to share with friends and neighbors," said Charlene Sisson, president of advertising for the festival. "It's a moving celebration, as many people return to the neighborhood where they grew up."
Sisson said the connection to the church and the celebration remains strong, even for people who have moved out of the vicinity of decades ago.
"It's always good to see old faces, but we also draw many others in the community who come to enjoy Italian cuisine and live music," she said.
