Hairstyling awards honor Austinites
Austin makeup artist Clarissa Luna (www.clarissaluna.com) won Makeup Artist of the Year at the North American Hairstyling Awards, and Jackson Ruiz Salon (500 N. Lamar Blvd. 478-7744, www.jacksonruiz.com) won Salon Team of the Year. The NAHA winners were announced during a ceremony in Las Vegas on July 31. Luna and the rest of the Jackson Ruiz team worked on a winning portfolio photographed by Austin photographer Tania Quintanilla. Luna's work has appeared on magazine covers, runways, TV and red carpets. Jackson Ruiz co-owner Allen Ruiz won Master Hairstylist of the Year at NAHA in 2007. Also this year, Ruiz won the International Stylist of the Year award at the 17th Annual Canadian Hairdressers Mirror Awards 2011.

1. How much "bling" does the dress already have? If the garment they're wearing is already full of sparkle, a more modest piece is the way to go.
2. Is your client wearing any jewelry? Try to select a piece that would complement any of the accessories she might be wearing. Pay special attention to the color or shade of the jewels or diamonds....
